Green Hope High School Bands Program
The purpose of the Green Hope High School Band Programs is to educate young people through music performance. Students are motivated through teamwork and performance objectives and evaluation to mature as a musician, as a student, and as a person. The curriculum is varied and cyclical in nature. The comprehensive program encompasses four years of high school study. Individual development of character, esteem, teamwork, and group accomplishment can be additional rewards of the program.
The local and nationally recognized band program at Green Hope High School consists of the Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, three Winter Guards, two Indoor Percussion ensembles, and Jazz Band. Over 200 students participate in these programs every year, performing for community concerts, regional and national competitions, school sports and arts events, local, regional and national competitions. Green Hope High School band students consistently graduate to world class music programs nationwide, providing outstanding young musicians and citizens, many of whom pursue careers featuring part time and full time music performance.
The GHHS Marching Band Performed at Band of America’s Grand National competition in Indianapolis in 2001, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019. We were a Grand National Semi-Finalist in 2015 and 2016 and a Ten-time BOA Regional Finalist. The Marching Band also received the Sweepstakes Award for performing at the 2009 Gator Bowl. Green Hope High School Concert Band, Symphonic band, and Wind Ensemble regularly place 25 or more students in the NC Central District Band and several in the NC All State Band.
Composer Philip Sparke conducted our Symphonic Band in the world premiere of his piece ‘Neapolitan’ at Meymandi Hall in May of 2009. Martin Ellerby composed “Roman Trilogy,” for its world premiere in May of 2014. Green Hope Bands have also participated in commissioning consortiums with John Mackey, Tyler Grant, and Robert Rankin. The Wind Ensemble commissioned “A Dream of Trees” by Aaron Perrine in 2019 for the 20th anniversary of Green Hope High School.
The bands are regularly invited to perform for the Cary and Raleigh community in venues such as Koka Booth Theater, Cary’s Lazy Daze, and in an increasing number of significant events in the region and nationally, in collaboration with other top high school band programs.
