Jazz Ensemble
A native of Washington, DC, Le’Roy graduated from Duke Ellington School of the Arts in June 1997. In 2001 he earned a Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from North Carolina Central University located in Durham, North Carolina. While attending North Carolina Central University he studied under world renowned artists Tom Browne, Dr. Ira Wiggins and Jay Meachum. He later obtained a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from NCCU in 2011. Le’Roy has performed with a variety of groups including but not limited to the Temptations, John Brown Quintet, Marcus Anderson Group, NCCU Faculty Jazz Combo, NCCU Jazz Orchestra and Vocal Ensemble. Currently he performs with the following: North Carolina Jazz Repertory Orchestra, John Brown Jazz Orchestra , The Groove Shop, and the Upper Room "Church House" Band. He has performed all over the world touring, recording, and performing in venues such as Euro Disney, Paris, France; Montreaux Jazz Festival, Geneva, Switzerland; North Sea Jazz Festival, Utrecht, Holland; Vienne Jazz Festival, Vienne, France; and the Virgin Gorda Jazz Festival in Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands. Le’Roy has performed with many notable artists such as: Nicholas Payton, Roy Hargrove, Terrell Stafford, Wynton Marsalis, Wynard Harper, Davey Yarborough, Alvin Atkinson, Sean Jones, Eve Cornelius, Chip Crawford, Charlie Brown, Vincent Heiring, and Pete LaRoca Simms to name a few.
Mr. Barley holds the following teaching positions: Lecturer, Director of Jazz Combos at Duke University, Jazz Director at Green Hope High School, Trumpet Instructor at the Musicians Learning Center, Jazz Band Director at North Raleigh Christian Academy and Band Teacher at Powell GT Magnet School. He is often called upon as a Consultant, Guest Lecturer, and Guest Speaker for various schools and organizations. Further, He has had the opportunity to teach at North Carolina Central University as Adjunct Instructor of Trumpet, Upper Room Christian Academy as both Music and Band Teacher, as an Adjudicator for the 2009 Guitar Center Drum Off, Durham, North Carolina and to be a Clinician and Adjudicator for the "City of the Arts" Annual Jazz Festival, North Carolina.
Mr. Barley's teaching philosophy is simple. Everyone should be exposed to music and have a basic understanding of it. The teacher must strive to meet the student where they are, in regards to their learning style and level, and encourage and challenge them as they grow. When a student studies music they should gain a basic knowledge even if they don't continue music for a long period. The discipline and skills required to play music can be used to better them in life.

Rachel earned her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, North Carolina. She is currently working on her Master of Music Degree in Music Education at the University of North Carolina - Greensboro. Rachel has performed with the Mars Hill College Wind Ensemble, Mountain Lion Marching Band, Low Brass Ensemble, Tuba/Euphonium Quartet, and Woodwind Quintet. Her most influential teachers include: Dr. Jim Sparrow, Dr. Dennis Askew, and Mr. Andre Feagin.
Rachel marched Baritone and Euphonium for the Memphis Sound Drum and Bugle Corps from 2005 through 2007. She won a DCI World Championship in 2007 with the corps, including awards for high brass, high percussion, and best conductor.
She has also assisted in teaching band camps and brass private lessons with several band programs in North and South Carolina, most recently with Music and Arts, Inc. Rachel has also taught master classes, euphonium lessons, and chamber ensemble groups at the Mars Hill College Summer Music Camp for the past three years.
Rachel is an active member of the North Carolina Music Educator's Association, National Association of Educators, and of Sigma Alpha Iota, international music fraternity for women.
Percussion
Aaron Tucker is a graduate of Sanderson high school. He holds a degree in Jazz Studies from East Carolina University, where he had the pleasure of studying with some great teachers. Early in his college career he had the opportunity to march with the Magic of Orlando Drum and Bugle corps, winning a division 2 world championship, and high percussion award. He has since taught private lessons and percussion ensembles across North Carolina, and has consulted for a few groups out of state. In addition to his teaching the fall and winter percussion ensembles at Green Hope high school, Aaron performs with a variety of musicians in and out of state as a freelance drummer. He can often be found playing with "The Atomic Rhythm All Stars", an early jazz ensemble based out of Raleigh, NC.
Sean is an arranger, instructor, and clinician living in Cary, NC. He is active as a percussion arranger and clinician for numerous colleges and high schools up and down the east coast and is featured on Standing O Marching, Dynamic Marching, and System Blue. Sean is an arranger and consultant for the George Mason University "Mean Green" independent percussion ensemble from Fairfax, Virginia; Wake Forest University independent percussion ensemble from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, as well as the front ensemble arranger/coordinator for the perennial DCA Finalist and 2010 DCA High Percussion Award Winner Carolina Gold Drum & Bugle Corps from Greensboro, North Carolina.
Sean attended Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA where he studied with Donald Bick and Howard Curtis, performing in the Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, and various solo and chamber groups. He is also active as a freelance percussionist and maintains a private studio in the Raleigh/Durham area. Sean was a member of the world champion Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps as well as a 2001 PASIC clinic participant.

Richard Hinshaw is a visual designer and music educator from Danville, Indiana, where he lives with his wife Jennifer and their newborn son McKinley. Growing up in Indiana, Richard was introduced to music at an early age, and he was "hooked" for life. Prior to his teaching and design career, some of Richard's performance experience included being a member of the Glassmen Drum & Bugle corps and being a trumpet student at the Indiana University School of Music.
Richard is the drill designer and lead visual instructor for the Avon High School Marching Black & Gold, three-time BOA National Champions (2008-2010). He has enjoyed working with the bands, color guards, and percussion ensembles at Avon since 2002. Richard is currently the program coordinator and drill designer for The Academy Drum & Bugle Corps from Tempe, Arizona, where has worked since 2009. From 2003 to 2007, Richard was a visual instructor with the Carolina Crown Drum & Bugle Corps, and he previously was an instructor with Spirit (2002) and Phantom Regiment (2001).
For nearly a decade, Richard has been a successful visual designer for high school marching bands, indoor percussion ensembles, and winter guards around the country. Richard's passion for music education and visual design has turned into a very fulfilling career. Much of this success has been made possible by Richard's mentors, who include Daniel Wiles, Leon May, Joe Wever, Keith Potter, and Jay Webb. With these influences and a continued desire to learn, Richard is constantly working to improve at his craft.
