I would like to welcome you to another year in the Green Hope Band Program. This year is starting off nicely with consistent effort from students. Thank you for your hard work in and out of rehearsal. The Symphonic and Concert Bands and Wind Ensemble are sounding great in class, and we are gearing up for our first concert on Thursday, October 29. The concert begins at 7pm and will feature all three bands. Tickets will be pre-sold for $5 each. You will receive information about this shortly. Also, the Marching Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble will be performing in the first annual Arts Festival during school on Thursday, October 15. Students from the entire school can come and watch these groups perform. I am very excited about this opportunity for our students to share their passion for the arts with their peers.

I am confident that you will find this year to be a rewarding experience for everyone. The Wake County Public School System is an avid supporter of the arts, and for good reason. It has been proven that music education is beneficial in all aspects of academic learning and leads to great success in life. As a music educator, I commend you on making the decision to further your musical knowledge and expertise. Students who participate in music courses through public school are proven to have higher school grades, better class attendance, and better-adjusted social behavior. We understand that students are committed to other endeavors outside of band, but we believe that the performing arts are a very important part of a student’s curriculum and can be one of the most rewarding experiences a student can participate in.

I am thoroughly enjoying working with all of the students in and out of class. Green Hope High School is the home of so many talented musicians, and it is an honor for me to have the opportunity to work with them daily. There will be many exciting opportunities in our band program this year! Marching Band, Jazz Band, Winter Guard, and Winter Drumline are very worthwhile experiences.
