Dear band
community,
I am very proud of your
performance on Friday night. It had some great moments
and it proved to the audience and to ourselves that the show is going to be
great once it is in its final polished stages. I know
that we all know where the imperfections were, but be sure to also focus on the
positives. I am very pleased with where we are and I
look forward to continuing to clean this week in preparation for our first
competition this Saturday. Let’s have a
great and productive week!
You can see a video of our halftime performance from
Friday at http://vimeo.com/6651856. The
password is “regiment.” It will be playing in the band
room before school each day this week.

campus and are not on this list, you must email Mr. Myers no later
than noon on Monday to let him know.

Cary YMCA Event, October
8: We have
been asked to send a few people to the Cary YMCA to perform for a “Kick-Off
Night” for their volunteers beginning a campaign to drum up interest in their
community outreach program. Here is some information
about the program:
The Cary YMCA is currently able to
offer opportunities for underprivileged youth and teens in our communities to
attend programs, including tutoring, after-school and summer camp programs, and
leaders’ club. The majority of these programs are offered at no cost to the
participant. In order to make this possible we hold a campaign every year to ask
the community to give of its resources. Volunteers from all walks of life
participate and support these programs financially.
Every year we hold a “Kick-Off”
Night for all the volunteers to really get everyone pumped up for our one-month
campaign.
They would like for us to play from
6:15-6:30. They want to hear the fight song and anything
else we would like to play. I will ask for volunteers
during practice.
Panther Creek Competition,
September 26: This is the final
schedule. Note that our performance time is now at
8:36pm.
*Note that students will need transportation to GH
for practice, and to Panther Creek at 5pm.
12-3pm Rehearse at GHHS--Students should eat lunch
before they come. Rehearsal will be on stadium field unless there is heavy rain
on days preceding. Students will need transportation from GHHS at 3pm and to
Panther Creek HS at 5pm.
5pm Meet at Panther Creek HS (an exact meeting place
on their campus will be announced later). Students should carpool if possible
due to limited parking. Students should eat something substantial before
arriving, as we will not have time for another full meal until after our
performance (snacks will be available, and students may have a little time to
visit concessions for a snack). We will watch a few bands in the
stadium.
6:30pm Dress, warm-up
8:36pm Performance. We are the last band to perform
before Panther Creek performs in exhibition. We will move to the end zone (in
uniform) for the exhibition performance and awards. Students will be dismissed
from PCHS after they dress out of uniform after awards (approximately 10:00pm).
We will need members from the percussion section and the leadership team to go
back to GHHS to help unload the truck.
Because this is such a close competition, we are
hoping to "Paint the stadium Maroon and Green" with Green Hope parents and
supporters. Please come out and watch!
Home Football Game, Homecoming,
Friday, October 2 : We will NOT perform our pregame
show as normal, since the US Navy Seals will be parachuting on the field before
the game and no one is allowed to be on the field during that
time. We will play the National Anthem and Fight Song
from the track. Everything else is as
normal.
As a reminder, here is our
schedule:
4:00 Practice
5:00 Dinner
6:00 Dress
6:45 Warm-up
7:20 Pregame show
~8:30 Halftime
~10:00 Game ends, students are

campus.

*If we make it into Finals, the finals performances
will begin at 8:00pm. Our schedule for the rest of the evening will depend
on our placement in the schedule. If we do not make it into finals, we
will still stay to watch the finals performances.
10:30 Finals Awards
~12:30 Return to GHHS, unload truck
Havelock Competition,
October 31 : This will be an extremely long day
(leaving early morning and arriving back home well after midnight), since it is
our farthest competition during the regular season. We will
most likely not practice on Saturday before leaving, and we won’t be able to
practice on the Thursday prior to the competition because of the Fall
concert. Thus, we will practice on Friday, October 30 before
the football game (Senior Night) that night. This is also a teacher
workday.
At 11:30 on Friday, October 30, we will be
participating in the Corn Maze at Phillips Farms on Green Hope Church Road in
Morrisville. The cost is covered by your fair share, so
we hope you will participate (although it is not
required). For every student that goes, $1 goes to the
Kay Yow Cancer Research Foundation. The corn maze is a
2-stage maze and involves trivia questions at stages throughout that guide you
through to the exit.
Here is the preliminary schedule:
Friday, October 30 (Senior Night)
11:30-1 Corn Maze
2-5 Practice
5:00 Dinner
6:00 Dress
~6:45 Seniors move to stadium,
band warms up
~7:20 Pre-game show begins
(seniors join band on field)
Competitions: Students may take the SAT on October 10
(West Johnston competition). We had originally scheduled an
overnight competition that weekend but changed it when the SAT dates were
released. The West Johnston schedule will probably be
similar to the Panther Creek schedule, while the Sanderson schedule will
probably be similar to the Wakefield schedule.
Final schedules will be distributed as soon as I receive the schedule from the
site host.
Please be sure that you have reserved the entire day
on your personal calendar for competitions. Don't assume that we will
report after a certain time, or that we will dismiss by a certain time.
Often, we are not given the schedule for competitions until within two weeks
before the competition. I will distribute the competition schedule as soon
as possible, but often it is not until the Broadcast on the Sunday before a
Saturday competition. Thank you for your understanding of this
matter. Most competition days will begin with a rehearsal before going to
the competition site. Buses will transport the entire band to competition
sites, except Panther Creek.
Bus Policy: Students are required to ride the bus to
competitions and are expected to ride back on the bus so that they can complete
their committee responsibilities upon return to school. If a parent wishes
to take a child back with them, a note must be submitted to Mr. Myers prior to
departure. Only a student's parent/guardian can transport his/her own
student.
Rehearsal schedule
post-season: Rehearsals are generally on Tuesdays and Thursdays
from 3:15-5:00 in November and December. A full schedule was
distributed before registration. It is now available on
the website. Please be sure to put all dates on your personal
calendar. As always, attendance is expected at all rehearsals and
performances.
Schedule Change
:
Please note that the Raleigh Christmas parade is now on November 21, not the
date that was originally on the band calendar.
This week: We will be changing the beginning of the
show a bit, which will affect the way we enter the field and adding
voiceovers. We will be adding a few visuals, and
cleaning music and drill throughout the show. This is
our last week of rehearsals before competition season begins, so let’s make it
count!
