Subject: Band Broadcast for the week of August 31st

Dear band community ,

Thank you for your flexibility this past Friday night at the game.  While I would have loved to perform, I did not think that the risk was worth it, considering we weren't sure what the weather would do.  Your safety is always my number 1 concern, and I didn't think that walking out with metal instruments was a good idea!  The next home game is on September 18, and it is 8th grade marching band night!  We'll hope for great weather.  Our first competition at Panther Creek on September 26 will be here before you know it!

In case you haven't seen it, we made the Cary news!  http://www.carynews.com/schools/story/13283.html

Wednesday's Study Hall   The following students have told me that they will be attending the study hall this Wednesday from 2:10-3:10 in the Commons.  If your name is not on this list and you will be staying on campus between school and practice, you  MUST email me ( bmyers@wcpss.net ) no later than noon on Monday to let me know.  If your name is not submitted to the main office by me on Monday, you are expected to leave campus and come back for practice at 3:20.
<< The names were removed from this document before posting it; see e-mail for details. >>

* = Every Wednesday unless I am told otherwise.

Colorguard--Impact Assessments:   If you signed up for an ImPact assessment with Mr. Ambrose, they will be on Thursday at the beginning of practice.  You should go to the media center at the beginning of practice.  They are $4 per person.  Email Steve Ambrose at  spambrose1@nc.rr.com if you have questions.

Leadership Clinic :  There was not enough response in the county to the clinic with Dr. Tim, so it has been cancelled until further notice.

Competitions:   Please be sure that you have reserved the entire day on your personal calendar for competitions.  Don't assume that we will report after a certain time, or that we will dismiss by a certain time.  Often, we are not given the schedule for competitions until within two weeks before the competition.  I will distribute the competition schedule as soon as possible, but often it is not until the Broadcast on the Sunday before a Saturday competition.  Thank you for your understanding of this matter.  Competition days will begin with a rehearsal before going to the competition site.  Please be aware that we will practice at GHHS on September 26 before the Panther Creek competition, then we will dismiss in time for students to grab food and get ready, and then we will meet at Panther Creek HS.  Buses will transport the entire band to other competition sites.

As a reminder, the competitions are on September 26 (Panther Creek), October 3 (Wakefield), October 10 (West Johnston), October 24 (Sanderson), and October 31 (Havelock).

Committees   It has been brought to my attention that we have numerous problems with committees completing their responsibilities.  Part of your responsibilities to this organization is to complete the duties assigned to your committee.  The committee chairperson is responsible for all tasks assigned to each committee, but they are not to do it all themselves.  If you are asked to do something by the student in charge, this is a direct extension of my instructions to them.  Please review the committee list if you have any questions about which committee you belong to.

Schedule Change   Please note that the Raleigh Christmas parade is now on November 21, not the date that was originally on the band calendar.

This week   Please have the revised movement 2 prepared for Tuesday's practice.  We have revised drill that we will learn on Tuesday, and we will put it with the music on Wednesday and Thursday.  I also expect C-D in movement 3 to be better this coming week than it was last week, so be sure you are practicing your part!  If you didn't check that section off with me last week I will be listening to it again this week.  If everyone would look at their music and practice before Tuesday's practice, it would help us a great deal.  Don't just rely on your memory to practice the music; refresh your memory to be sure you haven't picked up bad habits and double check dynamics and articulations!  Also, don't forget to bring your dot book to every rehearsal.

We had some great rehearsals last week.  Come to practice focused and ready to work and we'll have another great week!

Check this out on YouTube:  A montage of awesome DCI Drill--if we could only clean our dots as precisely as these guys do!
