Subject: Band Broadcast Week of August 9th

Director's Report:

Dear band community,

We have finished our show and are starting the process of cleaning!  It is very exciting to know that we have accomplished so much already.  We are planning to do some revising of the show design and adding some visual concepts, but that will be a season-long project.  For now, keep practicing your music and continue checking it off with your section leaders.

This week:  We will be concentrating on cleaning movement 1 this week.  Practices return to their normal time:  Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5:00-8:30pm.

Lazy Daze:  We will meet in downtown Cary on Saturday, August 22 at 7:30am to warm-up and prepare for our Lazy Daze performance.  We will meet at the statue across the street from the Chamber of Commerce (I think it is a bank parking lot).  Parents who are dropping students off can look for the equipment truck.  Students driving themselves should park in the deck behind the Chamber of Commerce.  We will perform the National Anthem with Cary High School Band for the opening ceremonies, then we will play our show.  Students should wear show t-shirts, black shorts, and sneakers (same uniform as the informance).  Sunglasses are also permitted, and recommended.

We have two more weeks before the start of school.  Please keep working hard in and out of practice, as our practice time decreases once classes begin and we will have many distractions.  Our first football game on August 28 is also approaching quickly!

Papa Murphy's Pizza Cards

Thanks to everyone who stopped by and picked up Papa Murphy's Pizza Cards at the informance. So far we have over 170 cards that have been signed out!  Remember, each card that you sell for $5, puts $4 in your student account and donates 50 cents to the band general fund. And your customer gets over $20 in savings at Papa Murphy's!

If you haven't heard of it yet, Papa Murphy's is a "take and bake" pizza chain located next to Fresh Market on Cary Parkway. Several band families have tried it for the first time and really liked the freshness of the pizza, the unique combinations, and the price.

I will be available at the end of each Tuesday rehearsal for you to pick up additional cards to sell. Unsold cards and/or the money MUST be turned into the green box by September 25th.  Please help us by labeling your check and the envelope with Papa Murphy's and your child's name.

If you have any questions or need cards, please contact Nancy LaWall at 469-5009 or NCLaWall@aol.com

Fair Share Account Fund Raising – NC State and Duke Football Games

We are still waiting to receive a schedule and specific information from Staff One Services, but I wanted to provide some information to anyone who may be interested in signing up to work at NC State and Duke football games.

Staff One will provide the specific dates for home game fundraisers.  Volunteers may sign up for as many games as you would like to work.  Once all volunteers have signed up for games, I will send out a list of volunteers to all who have signed up (just in case you may want to carpool).

Volunteer duties include ticket takers at various gate locations and ushering.  Report time for each game is 3 hours before start time.  Last year, groups were paid about $50 per person and worked about 6 hours per event.  The student account received about $45 per event/per volunteer, and the band received about $5 per event/per volunteer.

Staff One should be getting in touch with us within the next couple weeks, and I will provide more specific, accurate information once I hear from them.

There was a sign up sheet at the Informance; but if you did not get the opportunity to sign up, it’s not too late.  Anyone interested can still sign up by emailing Sue Zelnosky, suez@nc.rr.com.
