Dear band community,
 
Band camp is going very well!  All of the staff is very impressed with the progress of the first-year members and everyone is looking good, sounding good, and we are making excellent progress.  Students, keep persevering and working hard, and parents, please make sure that your band member stays healthy and rested while they are at home!
 
We are just a few hours away from leaving for Wake Forest.  Please be sure to consult prior Broadcasts with regards to packing needs.  Especially be sure to remember sheets and an alarm clock.  We will begin loading the buses at 6:00am, so be on time!
 
Below is a performance calendar with the competition dates and locations.  Thank you for your patience.  Please put these on your calendar and remember that all performances are mandatory for all students.  Parents, please come and support the band, particularly at the local shows.  We love to see a lot of maroon shirts in the audience!  Please note that there are no overnight competitions, except for the Gator Bowl.

Spiritwear Pick-Up Tuesday Evening, July 28th

Spiritwear is in and ready to be picked up on Tuesday evening approximately 30 minutes before our band is due to return from Wake Forest.  We will be located in the student parking lot near the picnic tables.  If you are unable to pick up your order on Tuesday, we will have it for you at the Informance on August 1st

 GATOR BOWL TRIP INFORMATION

Here are answers to some questions you may have about our Gator Bowl trip at this time.  More information will be shared as we get it! 

ARE ALL OF THE MARCHING BAND STUDENTS GOING?     Green Hope Marching Band  is including  the Bowl Game as part of their planned band competitions for the year.  Attendance by all students is mandatory.  We are seeking corporate sponsorships to cover ½ of the cost to the students.  Volunteer for the fundraising committee – we need you!!!!

WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO THERE?  The participation by high school marching bands is coordinated through Bowl Games of America, Inc.  Approximately 10-15 high school bands are approved to attend the bowl game.  The itinerary would be as follows:

December 30, 2009 Depart Green Hope via coach bus  for Jacksonville about 5am

Hotel check in, Courtyard Marriott Flagler Center, Jacksonville, FL

Warm up and perform marching band field show in competition, held at a 

local high school venue

December 31, 2009 Morning - Mass Band rehearsal for all bands for the Gator Bowl Halftime Show Finale

Afternoon- Downtown Jacksonville Gator Bowl Parade (judged)

Evening – New Year's Eve Dinner, Dance, and Awards Ceremony

Prime Osborne Convention Center

January 1, 2010  Morning - Final Dress Rehearsal  for Halftime show

Afternoon – GATOR BOWL on CBS.  ACC vs. Big 12 team.  

Winning field show performs their own show during pre-game. 

                                    All bands close the halftime show with a mass band finale

Evening- Dinner and down time at the hotel

  

January 2, 2010 Depart Jacksonville for Cary, NC after breakfast

HOW ARE WE GETTING THERE?   We  are contracting with Holiday Tours for our transportation. We have used this company for six years for our band travel needs, and they have offered a 10% discount as a corporate sponsor for the bowl game.

WHAT ABOUT CHAPERONES? Bowl Games of America requires 1 chaperone for every 10 students. Chaperones should be prepared to handle  multiple duties as pit and props helpers, uniform parents, whatever is needed to assist the students on the trip.  Your travel package includes a ticket to the bowl game.

WHAT IF I WANT TO BRING MY FAMILY TO SEE THE BAND AND THE GAME?  Other parents may purchase the package to attend at $50 less than the student package price

Package cost for 3 night stay for 2 people per room:  $479 per person (travel NOT included)

Package cost for 3 night stay for 3 people per rrom: $449 per person (travel NOT included)

Package cost for 3 night stay for 4 people per room: $419 per person (travel NOT included)

Package includes hotel room, New Years Eve Dinner Dance and ticket to Bowl Game.  Hotel cost includes breakfast, you would be responsible for other meals.
